The Badger “T” Club originated at a luncheon held at Tucson’s Palomino Restaurant in March of 1993. Present were Don Gooder, Chuck McHugh, Boyd Morse, Sr., Joe Valenzuela, Bernie Weinstein, Bill White, Tip Jackson, Howard Shiff, Billy Crowell, Bob Morrison, John Barringer and Mike Pratt. They created an organization of former students from Tucson High School who had participated in athletics and enjoyed meeting for lunch and recalling old times.
The following year they held a golf tournament at the Santa Rita Golf Club and a Hall of Fame picnic the same weekend. Fred Enke, Jr. was the master-of-ceremonies at this event and several people were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Coach Roland T. Gridley was the honored guest and his presence kindled fond memories. Bill Clements of Golden Eagle Distributors helped immensely with that first golf tournament.
In 1998, our official name was changed to the Tucson High School Alumni “T” Club. In 2001, the “T” Club qualified as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization.
Since its inception, the T Club has awarded over $230,000 in financial aid and scholarships to 140 deserving senior student athletes. Additionally, the T Club has provided financial assistance to 15 sports teams and related athletic programs.
